Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about FastBuild, attendance, payroll and more.
What is FastBuild?
expand_more
FastBuild is a browser-based construction workforce and operations platform for Canadian construction companies. It covers job sites, employees, GPS attendance, tasks, Canadian payroll, and daily reports in one web app.
Who is FastBuild for?
expand_more
FastBuild is built for Canadian construction companies: owners, managers, and site supervisors who need to run crews across job sites with reliable attendance, task, and payroll records.
What platforms is FastBuild available on?
expand_more
FastBuild runs in your browser on phones, tablets, and computers as a web app/PWA. There is no native iOS or Android app to download, so there are no App Store or Google Play listings.
Does FastBuild require training?
expand_more
The core workflow is simple: workers check in and out at the site, supervisors create and assign tasks, and managers review reports and payroll. Most crews adopt the check-in workflow within the first week.
How does GPS check-in work?
expand_more
A worker taps check-in when they arrive at the job site. FastBuild records the time and GPS location, validates the location against the site's geofence, and starts a work session. Check-out closes the session and the hours are calculated.
What happens if a worker checks in outside the geofence?
expand_more
The check-in is recorded but flagged as a GPS exception, and the manager is notified. The record includes the distance from the site boundary so the exception can be reviewed. Exceptions appear in the daily report.
Can workers see their own attendance history?
expand_more
Yes. Employees can view their own check-in history, weekly timeline, and monthly attendance summary showing present, late, absent, and early departure days.
How is overtime calculated?
expand_more
Overtime rules are configured at the company level with a daily threshold, a weekly threshold, and an overtime rate multiplier. Hours beyond the thresholds are classified as overtime in the attendance and payroll records.
What is a geofence?
expand_more
A geofence is a virtual boundary around a job site, defined by a center point and a radius. FastBuild uses it to verify that check-ins and check-outs happen on site.
How do I set up a geofence for a site?
expand_more
When you register the site, you pin its location on the map and set the geofence radius to match the physical boundary. The radius can be edited later, and sites can be deactivated when a project ends.
Does FastBuild track workers continuously?
expand_more
No. Location is captured at check-in and check-out only. FastBuild verifies presence at the boundary moments that determine the hours; it is not a continuous location tracker.
Can tasks be assigned to specific crew members?
expand_more
Yes. Supervisors create tasks with a title, description, priority, and due date, and assign them to a crew member. Workers update tasks through the status workflow: to-do, in progress, review, done.
What happens to completed tasks?
expand_more
Completed tasks appear in the daily report for the site, so the task record and the project documentation agree.
Can tasks be deactivated instead of deleted?
expand_more
Yes. Tasks that are no longer relevant can be deactivated, which preserves the history while keeping the active list clean.
How do I register a new job site?
expand_more
From the Sites section, choose to register a new site, enter the site name and address, pin the location on the map, and set the geofence radius. The site then appears in the site list and can accept attendance.
Can I manage multiple sites?
expand_more
Yes. Each site has its own crew, geofence, tasks, attendance, and daily reports, so a company running several sites keeps every record organized per project.
What happens when a project ends?
expand_more
The site can be deactivated. It stops accepting check-ins and leaves the active list, while its history stays available for reports and records.
How do I add a new employee?
expand_more
Invite the employee by email from the Employees section, choosing the role (manager or employee). The employee accepts the invitation and joins the company with the assigned access.
What happens when an employee leaves the company?
expand_more
The employee is deactivated, which immediately revokes their access while preserving their employment and payroll history.
Can I create custom roles?
expand_more
Yes. Company owners can create custom roles, duplicate existing roles and adjust them, and grant or revoke individual permissions so access matches responsibility.
Where do payroll hours come from?
expand_more
Payroll hours come from the attendance records: the GPS check-in and check-out sessions within the pay period. The same hours the supervisor reviewed are the hours payroll calculates.
What deductions does FastBuild calculate?
expand_more
FastBuild calculates gross pay from hours, overtime, holiday, and vacation pay, then applies the structure of Canadian payroll: CPP, EI, and federal and provincial income tax, to produce net pay.
Does FastBuild provide payroll compliance?
expand_more
No. FastBuild is a calculation tool that follows the structure of Canadian payroll. Tax rates and thresholds change over time; employers should verify current requirements with the CRA, provincial authorities, or a qualified professional.
Can employees see their pay stubs?
expand_more
Yes. Each employee can view their own pay stubs showing regular pay, overtime pay, gross pay, each deduction, and net pay.
How does the daily report get generated?
expand_more
Choose the site and date and generate the report. FastBuild assembles the attendance, hours, completed tasks, and GPS exceptions sections from the day's records, and the report can be exported as a PDF.
Who can generate daily reports?
expand_more
The reporting capability is available to the roles with report permissions, as configured by the company's role setup, typically employees and managers.
How do I start using FastBuild?
expand_more
Open FastBuild in your browser, register your company, verify your email, and set up your company profile. FastBuild is currently free to use.
Can I change my plan later?
expand_more
FastBuild is currently free to use, and your current plan and subscription status are shown in the app. Paid plans are not currently sold; if a payment channel is enabled, plan options and their prices will appear here before any purchase.
How is FastBuild distributed?
expand_more
FastBuild is a browser-based web app/PWA. There is no native iOS or Android app and no app store listing, and no web checkout is enabled. FastBuild is currently free to use.
How do I reset my password?
expand_more
Use the forgot-password flow on the login screen. FastBuild sends a reset link to your email, and you can set a new password from the link.
Can I update my profile information?
expand_more
Yes. You can update your first and last name from the profile settings. Your email is your sign-in identifier and cannot be changed.
What are company settings used for?
expand_more
Company settings define the operational rules that shape the platform: working hours, overtime rules, break policies, and notification preferences. These rules apply consistently across all sites.
How do notifications work in FastBuild?
expand_more
FastBuild sends in-app notifications for events such as GPS exceptions, completed tasks, and ready reports, according to each user's notification preferences, with email delivery available where configured.
What is FastBuild Inventory Management?
expand_more
It is a Premium operational inventory feature for tracking construction materials and tools by location, site, task, and employee. It uses one auditable stock-movement ledger and intentionally excludes procurement, accounting valuation, manufacturing, lots, and warehouse workflow complexity.
What is the difference between a consumable and a tool?
expand_more
A consumable is used up and recorded as project or task consumption. A tool remains accountable: it can be assigned to an employee and later returned to an inventory location.
Does an inventory package have its own stock?
expand_more
No. A package or kit is only a reusable list of items and quantities. FastBuild previews availability and, after confirmation, creates the same canonical movements and assignments used by manual operations.
